I’m Back from New York & November 2019 Plans! Liron’s Podcast Episode 93

Hi there! In this episode I want to give you a quick update on my New York experience (that’s been awesome by the way!). I’m also talking about my plans and focus for November 2019.

Here’s a VERY QUICK conclusion of what I talked about…

New York (and Ohio) Experience

  • Had a great time and visited most important spots.
  • Ate a lot of bagels and pizza!
  • Visited most of the museums (MET, MOMA, Guggenheim, Frick Collection, The New Museum, The Natural History Museum and some more…).
  • Visited different neighborhoods in Manhattan, as well as in Brooklyn and a bit of Queens.
  • Met a couple of friends we made in the past.
  • Took 2 walking tours in the south of Manhattan and Chinatown.
  • Saw the statue of liberty by taking the ferry to Staten Island (then immediately ran inside to catch the ferry back – we spent literally 43 seconds on the island!)
  • Went to see the Joker movie in a really cool, “vintage”, hipster theater.
  • Then visited my uncle and family in Ohio, which was a GREAT way to wind down after NY.
  • Then had a really horrible experience with American Airlines on the way back.

Overall this has been a great experience, and I definitely plan on coming back in the future.

Plans for November 2019

  • One of my main focuses – The Plein-Air Challenge – Starting every day with a plein-air session.
  • TikTok! Posting TONS of content there!
  • Starting to build a proper online gallery for selling my artwork
  • Sleep, health, workouts and nutrition
  • Brainstorming a new course
  • Experimenting with finalizing watercolor paintings without glass

Excited for this one. Not much left for 2019, and I want to make the most out of it!

Going Back to Work

Coming from a month-long vacation is an interesting experience. I’ve had it last year too (spent August in Ohio).

This time, however, it was more of a mix. On the one hand I felt happy to come back.

But on the other hand – it started getting dark earlier, which always makes me sad for the short transition period between seasons. I also felt like I’ll miss some of the freedom.

This is why I decided to not go back to work immediately, but rather spend a couple of days easing into it, and feeling again what it’s like to be on VACATION, but while AT HOME. It was actually a really smart move, and helped me get back on track better.

I’m now really into the routine, and despite working longer hours for the past couple of days – I feel connected with my goals and vision.

I’ll definitely keep you updated on how it goes.

Take care, and I’ll talk to you again soon.

Is Fear Stopping You from Creating? Liron’s Podcast Episode 91

In this episode we’re talking about fears that stop people from creating, and how to overcome them. I don’t have all the answers, but I wish to open this up for discussion and perhaps provide some of my own experience.

I  found that one of the main fears are not necessarily external, but rather internal.

For example – the fear of “disappointing” yourself with “another failure”. When you have a bad streak of paintings, and you prefer inaction and avoiding the disappointment.

In my experience, the solution – ironically enough – is to go the complete opposite. To create as much as you can. And to some extent – to disregard quality completely and work on quantity.

That’s something I’d like to encourage more people to try.

I hope you find this episode encouraging in some way. Let me know your thoughts in a comment below.

Coming to NY, TikTok, LinkedIn & Plein-Air – September 2019 Plan | Liron’s Podcast Ep 90

In this episode I give you a quick rundown of my plans for September 2019. I’ll basically have to put in insane amounts of work. Wish me luck!

Here’s some of what I talk about:

Coming to NY!

I’ll be in NYC for the 1st-22nd of October. Really looking forward to this vacation!

I had a couple of extremely grueling months of work, and now it’s time to rest a bit and blow off some steam.

This also means, by the way, that I have A LOT OF WORK to finish prior to going, as I want to make sure everything is prepared.

Frustration Free Watercolor Course

One of the things I REALLY have to finish before NY.

I want to launch the course asap, as I’ve been working on it for a long time and I know so many need it (and are already waiting for it!).

I have to now edit all the lessons and work on the sales pages and website itself.

I believe I can wrap this up in 2 weeks or so.

TikTok App

I think this app has some potential to eventually overthrow Instagram. I want to start figuring it out and making sure I’m creating content there.

You can check out my TikTok here: @Liron.Yan

LinkedIn

Another place I want to put more work into. This is a good one to draw lines of similarity between art and business.

YouTube Videos

this is going to be the real challenge… I want to film content for the entirety of October and have it scheduled in advance. I don’t really know if that’s even possible haha.

I may also reduce the frequency to twice a week instead of 3 vids. We’ll see about that.

And that’s mostly it. Oh, and one last thing…

Art Business Plans for August 2019 – What it Takes to Attain Success | Liron’s Podcast Episode 86

In this episode I want to show you what it takes to build a successful business or brand around you and your art, and give you hope that with hard work – it is possible!

Art Business Plans for August 2019

I discuss goals and tasks that fall under the following categories:

  • Art & painting
  • Business & Products
  • Communication
  • Routine & Health
  • Financial

Every one of these is important and represents an important aspect of my work.

How I Set Goals and Tasks for my Art Business

I discussed this in a previous daily podcast episode more in depth, but the way I treat this is by:

  1. Setting yearly (and 5-year) vision, goals and plans
  2. Using these to create monthly tasks
  3. Using these to create daily tasks

This ensures I always know what I’m doing.

No Artist Corner

I’m doing an experiment this month, turning the podcast into something that’s easier and more natural for me to post.

So I’m taking a more free-flow approach, so no Artist Corner for now.

But for now, here’s where you can find me:

Always Make it About the Customer – Artist Business Advice | Liron’s Podcast Episode 85

In this episode we talked about how to become BETTER at SELLING, by thinking about the customer’s “selfish” wants and FIRST, rather than what we think we have to offer.

Marketing Didn’t Come Easy For me

I’d like to emphasize how marketing didn’t come naturally to me initially. It’s something I learned slowly and gradually.

Sales, funny enough, came more naturally. I already had the right mindset when it comes to selling and helping the customer get what they need and want.

But marketing, awakening the imagination of the customer, talking about their pain points and needs… That – I had to learn.

And you can too!

Most People Talk About Their Product

Most people tend to talk about THEIR product. The benefits it offers. What makes it good, and so on…

The problem is – most people don’t care. They only want one thing – to have their “problem” solved.

Ask Questions!

The perfect example is someone coming to my art booth and carefully observing the paintings. They show interest, so it’s fine for me to “jump in”.

But if I simply start talking about the paintings, why they are of good quality bla bla… I don’t address the customer.

Instead, I’d much rather ask questions. That way I’ll know what they want. So I may ask “Are you looking for something in particular?” or “Looking for a gift for someone?” and so on…

That way, even if they go “Nah thanks just browsing” – at least I know not to waste too much energy for the time being.

Find The Common Interest

Once you gained enough info, you can see if there’s what I like to call a “common interest”. You want to sell a painting – they are collecting paintings from around the world / want a gift for an art lover and so on…

Once there’s a common interest – selling is EASY.

And here’s another fun fact – the common interest may be – They’re just looking to have fun and look at art, and you want to share your work with someone. It doesn’t have to end up in a sale.

Online and Offline

The skillset of always thinking about the customer is extremely crucial for both selling online and selling offline.

The main difference is that offline you have more physical feedback, and you have to sort of narrate the customer’s thoughts and test out different ideas. More on that in a future episode.

Conclusion

I hope this gives you some idea of how important it is to first consider the potential client’s wants, needs and pain points.

Artist Corner – Geremia Cerri

Today we talked about geremia Cerri, a fantastic Italian watercolor painter. I love the authenticity of his work. He paints in the impressionistic style I like the most, but has a very unique “signature” of the end result.

You can check out his work here: Geremia Cerri on Facebook
