Top 3 Business Insights from Last 7 YEARS | Liron’s Podcast Episode 130

In today’s episode I’m sharing 3 BIG business-related insights I gained over the last 7 years of building my art business. These are MACRO insights that I think you and anyone can benefit from, even if you’re NOT building a business.

Let’s get to it!

#1 – Things never work out the 1st, 2nd or 3rd time

I can’t even begin to count my failures. It’s simply an INHERENT part of doing something worthwhile – Learning a skill, creating a relationship, building a business etc…

I had to learn to recognize this fact, embrace it and continue iterating, improving and trying – until what I did WORKED.

Happens to me in painting, drawing, marketing, making content etc.

#2 – Learn from the BEST

This is another incredibly important insight I had.

If you want to learn something FASTER and more efficiently – find the person / place that’s the BEST that you can afford, and learn from that.

This will save you time, bad habits and probably even MONEY in the long run.

The ability to find these people and resources is something that will also improve with time.

#3 – Always give MORE than you receive

This is something I always try to strive for.

In any business transaction, or even personal life – I’d much rather give back more than I receive.

And again – this isn’t necessarily from a place of kindness (though I would like to think I’m kind), but rather – it’s PRACTICAL!

In the long run, you’ll always do better and get farther by providing more value than you ask for in return.

And along the way – it ends up really helping people, so why not? (:

Conclusion

These are some of my most meaningful insights from the last 7 years of working on building my art business.

There are plenty more, in all different areas of life.

You Make It Look Effortless – Inspiration & Putting In THE WORK | Liron’s Podcast 125

Today we’ll talk about the inspiration provided by watching other people paint / create, and how they make it seem effortless.

This episode is formatted more as a discussion rather than as me telling you what to think (: I don’t have any answers, but I’m interested in these ideas around creativity and progressing as an artist.

A Comment I Get A Lot

So this was sparked by a comment I often get, mentioning how I make painting look easy or effortless.

What’s fascinating about this is how I ALSO had that feeling whenever I’d watch painters in work in the past.

And it’s great fun!

The Trap & 1 to 3 Rule

As an aside, I discuss how this can also be a trap, leading to this sort of “addiction” to watching videos instead of painting or creating yourself.

For this I recommend the 1 to 3 rule: for every hour you spend watching a video / other people create, be sure to spend 3 creating yourself.

Putting In The Time & Work

The key here is understanding just how much work is necessary to see significant improvement.

Growth can seem very small when looking at a short time frame of a year or a few months.

You want to, at the very least, measure your growth on a year to year basis. This takes time! (:

Your Language MATTERS

Another last note from my recent daily podcast episode – Your language and how you talk about yourself matters.

This is something to be mindful of. Notice every time you may belittle yourself or talk in a disempowering way (“this is impossible” or “I could never do that”).

People say these things casually like they don’t matter. Well, they do. These determine your reality. If you say it’s impossible, you really have no chance of doing it. You didn’t even allow for the opportunity to try in a way.

Conclusion

So these are my thoughts and 2 cents for the day! I hope this helps or at the very least entertains 😉

If you enjoy these episodes, I’ll also HIGHLY appreciate if you visit your podcast app / site and leave a rating + review. It really helps the show reach more people.

Master Studies – Is It Cheating? Liron’s Podcast Episode 116

Today we’ll discuss the question – are master studies cheating? Is it okay to copy works of other people? Let’s get into it!

Master Studies

A master study is the recreation of an existing art piece, usually one made by an art master of the past, but could also be a contemporary master.

The intent behind these is LEARNING. It’s a study.

You use the study to get into the mind of that artist, and understand why they did things the way they have.

Here are some of the artists I mentioned in this episode, for inspirational purposes (:

Marc Folly – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD4fuUMH3Ts

Viktoria Prischedko – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZZIGDfgY0w

The classic school of thought, from what I’ve been exposed to – encourages master studies to be as close of a replica as possible to the original. This teaches you about hard work, effort, focus and patience.

I however tend to take a more lenient approach. I love to learn the basics behind the original – why the particular composition was chosen and the basic technique applied to create the piece. But that’s about it. To me, there’s a lot to be learned by doing a smaller, quicker version of the original.

The Benefits of Master Studies

Let me briefly list some of the HUGE benefits of doing master studies:

  • Learning from the BEST
  • Forcing yourself to break past your current level and comfort zone
  • Learning how much effort is required to produce something great
  • Opening your horizons and continuing to push the envelope and improve (preventing stagnation)

So… Are master studies legit? Is it cheating?

No! Not in my opinion. As long as you’re honest with yourself and others, as long as you DON’T take credit for work that’s not your own, as long as you mention you’re doing a study based on X artist’s work – I’m perfectly fine with that.

In fact, I do MANY of these, and have learned a lot from them!

So go for it!

I hope you enjoyed this one!
