I’m Visiting The USA | Liron Yanconsky’s Podcast – Episode 37

Hi there! Today’s podcast episode is a personal / blog update about my upcoming visit to the USA, and some additional updates.

Visiting the USA

I will be visiting for the entirety of August (2nd – 29th). I’m visiting family in Cleveland, Ohio.

I’m really looking forward to this time. It will give me an opportunity to recharge and reset, and perhaps refresh my vision for the future.

In addition, I’m pretty happy to visit my family! (: We may also visit Canada.

YouTube Channel VS Painting

This is something that’s been on my mind for a while now.

I feel like I’m putting A LOT of work into the YouTube channel, and not enough time into painting and making art.

I think I need to rebalance this. I’m unsure if this means going down to 2 vids a week, or less, but it’s something in that range.

I’m actually considering taking 2 weeks of a complete break from YouTube for a hard reset, but we’ll see.

I don’t want to give up the possible upside / potential, but I do want to make sure I don’t burn myself out.

Results VS Expectations

This is something that pops from time to time. I sometimes feel like my progress isn’t “fast enough”, or that I’m not getting better as fast as I can.

This is of course a little ridiculous. I am working as hard as I can, and I am doing my best. I need to re-sharpen my gratitude and acceptance skills! (:

IGTV

Finally, just wanted to mention this awesome platform.

Instagram created an additional app called IGTV. It’s like YouTube, or a TV, only made for mobile. The videos are vertical, and it’s just fun to use.

Artist Corner – Tim Wilmot

Finally, today I mentioned Tim Wilmot. He is an incredible watercolor painter from the UK.

Interviewing Other Artists

I talked a bit about my idea of interviewing other artists.

I think this will work great to encourage channel growth on YouTube. I also think this will create amazing content that viewers will really enjoy.

I made a list of artists I want to get to next, so expect updates in the near future!

Steve Mitchell Interview

Steve was the first creator I thought about reaching out to.

I’ve been following him for several years now, and learned A LOT from him. His fun personality and sense of humor make his videos not only educational, but also entertaining.

And as luck would have it, I noticed he started following me on Instagram, and even commenting and liking some of my posts!

As soon as I saw that I decided to reach out to him. He was super-cool about it, and the result is this interview!

I’m not going to transcribe the entire interview / questions (mainly because it’s a bit long).

But I do recommend you listen (or watch on YouTube – Steve Mitchell Interview). We talked about creating, being an artist, his career, and even Reese! (; You don’t want to miss that.

Hi there! In this episode I want to talk to you about my desire to make interview other artists, and build connections in the watercolor community.

Things I KNOW I Should Do

I got this idea after brainstorming. I felt like, at the back of my head, there are many things I know I should be doing, but don’t.

So I made a list and 2 main things popped:

Do LIVE videos!
Interview other artists and collaborate!

So I took the 2nd one to hear, and decided to do just that.

Steve Mitchell / The Mind of Watercolor

I already started applying this change. I recently contacted Steve Mitchell of The Mind of Watercolor channel.

He is an amazing artist and I really appreciate his work. I also learned a lot from his videos. He was the first person I wanted to interview.

Luckily he was so cool and friendly about it and immediately said yes. The interview should be out this Thursday on my YouTube channel, and next Tuesday on the podcast as well (:

Benefits of Interviews of Other Artists

I have all the reasons in the world to do this. First – I think this will create AMAZING content for mine and the interviewee’s audience. I want to ask the less obvious questions. I want to open a window into the PERSON I’m interviewing.

Another huge advantage is building a more personal connection with the watercolor community.

And lastly – this will really help our channels grow, by increasing exposures.

Other Artists I Want to Interview

I’ve been thinking about some of the “purer” watercolor artists on YouTube such as Patrick Ley-Grieves, Nitin Singh and Teoh. I hope to reach out to those soon.

But then the more I thought about it the more I realized it doesn’t matter. I can interview ANY artist I want! The content will still be relevant – especially with visual artists (the medium is of less importance).

In this episode I mentioned Richard Bolton, a watercolor painter who lives in New-Zealand and has a name sounding like a Game of Thrones character =P

Business Monday – My New Show

Next week I’m going to start a new show on my YouTube channel.

Business Monday will be a show dedicated to the art business. I will talk to you from my own PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I want to share my insights regarding how to build a successful art business.

Why I’m Starting This Show

My current content attracts a lot of older audiences, which is great! Sometimes, later in life – people find more time to create art and paint.

However, I’d also like to help younger audiences. I’m talking about young artists that are HUNGRY for success.

I feel like this is something I can share my knowledge about.

How I Got the Idea

I wanted to talk about topics related to art and business for a LONG time now. In fact, I’ve been doing that to some extent for a while now.

I would occasionally talk about topics such as business, marketing and so on. But it was always at the “fringes” of my content. It was something I always did “along” the way.

a few days ago I was talking to a friend about this. Suddenly he told me: “Why not just make a show dedicated to that?”

I immediately felt how on-point he was.

Content Pillars – Building an Art Business

I have many content pillars in my YouTube channel (and on other places such as Instagram). I talk about watercolor, sketching, The Paint Show, and I also have my new series – Painting Masters.

Having these as content pillars, or “headlines”, helped me significantly with brainstorming a multitude of ideas for videos, posts and so on.

But up until this point, I haven’t had an organized content pillar for BUSINESS. And now I do (:

My Intentions with Business Monday

Sharing ONLY What I Know

My only intent with this show is the share my insights. I will not pretend to know everything. I want to talk about the things I am experienced at.

I’ve been working on my art business and personal brand for the past 4 years, and only now feel like I start to reap some of the rewards.

And so, I also feel like I have a lot to teach.

Detailed, Specific Talk

Another thing I intend to do is to go DEEP. I want to show you the exact things I’m talking about. I want to show you my actual sales funnel, my Facebook ads, my autoresponder. Everything!

There’s plenty of general information out there. Frankly, it helps almost nobody. It’s been commoditized.

I want to give you what I did, specifically. That’s the best type of information, in my experience.

Artist Corner

In this episode I wanted to talk to you about Alexander Votsmush.

Alexander is a watercolor painter. He creates surrealistic works that are simply astounding. He seems to have complete mastery of watercolor, and even realism. I believe he distorts reality as a style choice. I wouldn’t be surprised if he can draw realistically, or even hyper-realistically.

By the way, I read that Votsmush is a nickname, a play on the letters of his original last name – Shumtov.

Cobalt Blue – ShinHan PWC Watercolor | The Paint Show 25

Hi there!

Today I want to share with you a review of Cobalt Blue by ShinHan PWC watercolor!

PWC is ShinHan’s artist grade watercolor (they also have the Professional line for students and Shami for kids).

Cobalt Blue by ShinHan PWC

I purchased this alongside their Cadmium Red Deep and Cadmium Yellow Deep.

I really love this paint and have used it EXTENSIVELY, in many of the works I shared with you here and on Instagram for the past several months.

Here are some of my works showcasing it.

Cobalt Blue – Paint Info

Pigment: PB28 (cobalt blue).
Semi-transparent
Lightfastness 3/3
Series D (almost the most expensive on the A-E scale)

My Only Complaint With Cobalt Blue

My only complaint with this paint is that it doesn’t achieve dark enough values. It’s not as light as some ceruleans I saw, but it’s still not as dark as many of the Phthalo Blues and French Ultramarines.

I think this could work to your advantage if you are painting in a softer style. For me however – I love strong contrasts at times. I love to use a wide range of values.

Another issue caused by this is that it’s hard for the blue to be dominant when mixed with the red and yellows I purchased (partially my fault, as they are more opaque).

I do love the way it looks

With that being said, I produced many beautiful paintings with it, and love the way it looks.

I’d recommend getting it as a part of a gentle trio, alongside lemon yellows and rose-like colors.

These sell on Amazon as sets. I’m not usually a big fan of watercolor sets, but for the price point – these may be worth it.

Conclusion

I really love ShinHan’s PWC paints so far, and plan on getting many more in the future. This is a great color to have too.
