Painting in the Studio VS Painting Outside | Liron Yanconsky’s Podcast – Episode 44

Hi there, Liron here! And today I want to talk to you about how I’m recently spending more time painting inside my new studio, rather than outside.

Painting Outside VS Painting Inside / In the Studio

I’ve already talked about this several times in the past. Both of these have advantages and disadvantages.

I find that for me, the ideal way is to alternate between the two, and find the balance that satisfies me. And that balance keeps changing with time.

My Journey & With Painting Outside

When I just got started in watercolor, and still had no idea what I was doing, I painted inside only.

That’s how I learned how watercolor works, the basic techniques and several approaches.

I then started experimenting with painting outside, but nothing too serious. I always made a big deal out of it, like not knowing what to paint, or how to have a proper setup to help me make it easier.

Then, around late 2017 I started becoming MUCH more serious about painting outside, after hearing about the importance of this practice, from multiple sources.

I spent most of that and 2018 creating mainly outside. I also lived in a tiny apartment, and painting outside was actually EASIER (:

But I then started lacking in accuracy, and in the ability to properly finalize my art.

It was time to go back to working more inside.

My New Studio

As I recently moved to a new apartment, and now finally have a dedicated studio, I find myself painting inside most of the time.

I recently started feeling like it was time for a change.

So I decided (like I did in the past), that I’d spend x number of days a week working outside. Right now, my balance is once a week.

For now this feels great, and I’m slowly getting back to the joy of seeing a beautiful view in front of your very eyes, and painting it.

Will keep you updated on any interesting developments (:

Artist Corner

Today I featured Gonzalo Carcamo, a Brazilian artist who works mainly in watercolor.

He has a fantastic sense of light and shadow, and he keeps his color scheme VERY simple. Yet his work is a beautiful and REALISTIC impression of what he sees.

I highly recommend you check out his work on Instagram: Gonzalo Carcamo

A Different Side of Me – Communicating Authentically | Liron Yanconsky’s Podcast – Episode 43

Hi there, Liron here! Today I want to talk to you about communicating authentically.

Communicating Authentically as a Content Creator

I’ve been creating content for several years now, and this is something I’ve been thinking about a lot.

The ability to communicate who you are fully is fascinating. Some have it more naturally than others. But it almost always comes down to practice.

Also, a lot of it has to do with the medium at hand. Some communicate better over video, some by writing, and others by talking (like this podcast!).

Communicating Authentically and FULLY

Something I’ve been thinking about for a while is WHAT you communicate, and how much of it you do.

You may notice I share A LOT of artistic stuff, but much fewer personal stuff. I don’t show my family or friends a lot. I want our communication to be mainly about you and me, as well as art and creativity.

Showing You More

Lately I’m on a kick of sharing more and more about myself.

I talked recently about loving manga and anime, as well as being a long time fan of The Legend of Zelda games series.

I want to share as much as I want, and feel the freedom to do so.

Hopefully I’ll be able to continue sharing, and that you enjoy the ride!

Artist Corner

Today I featured Greg Allen – an Australian master of loose impressionistic watercolor painting.

In addition to that, he can also paint quite realistically, even portraits! This is a quality I really admire,

I can even draw a connection to today’s episode. Here are two videos of Greg in action. One is quite old (2009), and the other is newer (2015). Notice which one is more authentic, and presents MORE of his personality and uniqueness.

Video one: A World of Watercolor
Video two: Greg Allen’s Watercolor Techniques

I highly recommend you check out some of his artwork at the bottom of this page: http://twentymelbournepainterssociety.com.au/home/members/greg-allen/

Interviewing Patrick Ley-Greaves | Liron Yanconsky’s Podcast – Episode 39

Hi there, Liron here (:

Today I wanted to share with you my interview with Patrick Ley-Greaves. It was originally posted as a video on my YouTube channel (which you can check out here: Patrick Ley-Greaves video interview).

Now I wanted to also share it in audio form, as I know some of you prefer that.

Interviewing Patrick Ley-Greaves

The interview covered multiple topics related to painting, drawing, creativity and motivation.

I feel like Patrick and I share similar perspectives on many topics. What I love about him is that he truly believes anyone can create. His approach is very encouraging and uplifting, and seems to bring the best out of people.

Prior to these interviews, I do a preparatory video call. It usually takes about an hour or so.

Patrick and I ended up talking for about 3 hours.

Conclusion

I had a lot of fun talking to Patrick, and the whole experience was great. I hope you also enjoyed listening to the interview.

As a side note – we did the interview a while ago, but I’m only now posting it, after my month-long vacation.

I hope to be back on track soon, with the normal posting schedule for the podcast and YouTube channel.

Thank you for your continued support and for sticking around!

My Morning Routine | Liron Yanconsky’s Podcast – Episode 38

Hi there! Today I want to share with you my morning routine, and talk about how it saves my life on a regular basis.

Morning Routine

My morning routine is something that slowly and naturally developed over the last 2 years.

Here’s what it ended up being like.

  • I meditate for as long as I feel like it (usually 10-20 minutes). I try to observe my thoughts without judging them.
  • Then I write down anything and everything that came and comes to mind in my notebook. This helps me revisit memories in a more emotionally detached state of mind, and learn about myself.
  • I write down things I’m grateful for. This is my daily exercise in gratitude, and I find it to be incredibly important.
  • I watch a Gary Vee video (usually close it after 5 minutes because I have to start working).

This morning routine is really helpful in getting me started with my day, and organizing my thoughts.

How My Morning Routine Saves My Life

When you are your own boss, there are challenges that accompany that.

I am very grateful for having the freedom in time, and doing what I want. This is not to be taken for granted. But with that, sometimes it’s a challenge staying on the right path. Sometimes it’s a challenge even knowing where to go.

This is what this routine helps me with. It helps me observe myself and understand my patterns, thoughts and fears. It also helps me practice gratitude.

This is crucial when you are the person at the top / independent. It’s a lonely place at times, and you need all the strength you can get.

Artist Corner – Fabio Cambranelli

Today I featured Fabio Cambranelli, who’s an incredible Brazilian watercolor and acrylics painter.

He does many florals, and has a very interesting technique. He lifts A LOT, uses wet-in-wet a lot, and makes the most out of each wash. He works with watercolor the way they were meant to be used, pushing them to their limits.

You can check out his work here:

I’m Visiting The USA | Liron Yanconsky’s Podcast – Episode 37

Hi there! Today’s podcast episode is a personal / blog update about my upcoming visit to the USA, and some additional updates.

Visiting the USA

I will be visiting for the entirety of August (2nd – 29th). I’m visiting family in Cleveland, Ohio.

I’m really looking forward to this time. It will give me an opportunity to recharge and reset, and perhaps refresh my vision for the future.

In addition, I’m pretty happy to visit my family! (: We may also visit Canada.

YouTube Channel VS Painting

This is something that’s been on my mind for a while now.

I feel like I’m putting A LOT of work into the YouTube channel, and not enough time into painting and making art.

I think I need to rebalance this. I’m unsure if this means going down to 2 vids a week, or less, but it’s something in that range.

I’m actually considering taking 2 weeks of a complete break from YouTube for a hard reset, but we’ll see.

I don’t want to give up the possible upside / potential, but I do want to make sure I don’t burn myself out.

Results VS Expectations

This is something that pops from time to time. I sometimes feel like my progress isn’t “fast enough”, or that I’m not getting better as fast as I can.

This is of course a little ridiculous. I am working as hard as I can, and I am doing my best. I need to re-sharpen my gratitude and acceptance skills! (:

IGTV

Finally, just wanted to mention this awesome platform.

Instagram created an additional app called IGTV. It’s like YouTube, or a TV, only made for mobile. The videos are vertical, and it’s just fun to use.

I’m posting A LOT there (almost every day), so make sure to check it out. You can get there by visiting my Instagram page, and clicking where it says IGTV.

Artist Corner – Tim Wilmot

Finally, today I mentioned Tim Wilmot. He is an incredible watercolor painter from the UK.

He has – what I think are – some of the best YouTube tutorials out there. Be sure to check out his work:
